Ferry Crossings
We
have travelled to Dinan in a number of ways. The cheapest way with
a car we have found is Dover-Calais as sometimes you can get very
good deals on either the ferries of the tunnel crossings. Then
driving on the toll road to Dinan, it costs about £8-£10
on the toll and takes about 5 hours, a long time, I know with children,
but there is always somewhere to pull off and have a picnic. The
petrol is also a lot cheaper in France, about 2/3 of the price.
The drive from Caen or Cherbourg is about 2-3 hours and from Roscoff
it is about 2 hours. The ferry to St Malo is an overnight ferry,
it leaves Portsmouth at 8pm and slowly gets to St Malo at the civilised
hour of 8am. Dinan is then about a half hour drive from St Malo.
Brittany ferries also have fast ferries from Poole to Cherberg and Portsmoutn
and Caen If you are coming from the west country there are ferries from Plymouth
to Roscoff.
If you decide on Brittany Ferries and make a firm booking with me I can give
you an account no. which will give you a discount on ferries. Their phone no.
is 0870 5561 475.
There are a few ferry lines so it is probably worth phoning or checking on their
websites for a comparison of prices. |
